islands

"The ocean is deathless.
The islands rise and die.
Quietly come, quietly go.
A silent swaying breath."

Just like, really into sharks right now. The last one is purely self indulgent, forgive me.

"This jacket fucking reeks of sex. This is the jacket that that fucking guy wears, that one guy who always seems to get everything he wants for nothing. That one guy who all the women fawn over, fondle, and caress, while you stare at your stupid fucking hoodie. This is a jacket for the master of the indolent, the modern renaissance man, the kind of man who knows what kind of fucking drink he wants at the bar, and doesn’t ever get shorted by the bartender. This is the kind of jacket that girls want to wrap around their shoulders during the walk to the cab. The kind of jacket they try to put on over their dresses the morning after. The kind of fucking jacket that every man who wants to be somebody should own."

the moon

The moon is not only beautiful
It is so far away
The moon is not only ice cold
It is here to stay

When I lay me down
Will you still be around
When they put me six feet underground
Will the big bad beautiful you be around

Everyone says they know you
Better than you know who
Everyone says they own you
More than you do

Shit I want from Maryam Nassir Zadeh.
In other words, shit I may eventually make for myself in shittier quality.
1, 2. Bokin shirt. 3. Jeremy Laing dress. 4. Bown patched pants. Really nice Rachel Comey shoes too. 5. Golden Goose faded bordeaux sweatshirt. So nice, but $444 is a bit steep. Seriously, $400 for a (really nice) faded sweatshirt? 6. Cosmic Wonder pants.

"Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit
Feelin' lit, feelin' right, 2 am summer night
I don't care, hand on the wheel, drivin' drunk, I'm doin' my thing
Rollin the Midwest side and out livin' my life gettin' out dreams
People told me slow my roll. I'm screaming out fuck that
Imma do just what I want, lookin' ahead no turnin' back
If I fall, if I die, know I lived it to the fullest
If I die, if I fall, know I lived and missed some bullets

I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold
I'll be fine once I get it, I'll be good"

lucky

"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state, from which the vast majority have never stirred."

ch-ch-changes

The symbol of death is the symbol of change.
I have been seeing so many dead animals lately, mostly on the way to the library when my computer was broken. First I saw a dead raccoon, it looked so chubby and cozy on the side of the trail I was walking on. Then the next day, I saw a dead cat on the road, its furry little head was right against the pavement, I didn't look like it had been run over but I was really worried that someone might squish his delicate little head. Finally the other day I saw a dead squirrel in the most peculiar position, it looked like he died while he was digging a hole, I didn't even think it was dead until I came back from grocery shopping and it hadn't moved.

madonna

Edvard Munch Madonna
Madonna. Edvard Munch, 1895.
Sigrun Rafter, an art historian at the Oslo National Gallery suggests that Munch intended to represent Mary in the life-making act of intercourse, with the sanctity and sensuality of the union captured by Munch. The usual golden halo of Mary has been replaced with a red halo symbolizing the love and pain duality. The viewer's viewpoint is that of the lover with her.

I'm so into this concept of influencers/trendsetters/early adapters, I guess it goes hand in hand with my interests in fashion theory.
This short film by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson is awesomely produced, lots of interviews with super cool creative types and how good looking is that Dao-Yi Chow guy? Such pretty boy swag.

Cobain

"Chef Boyardee is meaner, stronger, less susceptible to disease and more dominant than a male gorilla. He comes to me at night. Willfully opening the locks and bending the bars on my window. Costing me horrendous amounts of money in home burglary devices. He comes to me in my bedroom. Naked, shaved and oiled. Goose-bumped thick black arm hairs risen off his skin. Standing in a pool of pizza grease. Barfing up flour. It enters my lungs. I cough. He laughs. He mounts me. I'd like to kick his hot-stinking, macho fuckin' ass."
- Kurt Cobain

Big ups to Mark Peckmezian for showing me this. This quote is amazing, it's like Hemingway and Jack Kerouac. And then, it's more homoerotic and sort of racist, written in this desperate drug addict way. The imagery is insane, not to state the obvious like the douche that I am, but the man is talented with words.
The quote is from his biography, Heavier Than Heaven.
